This Rose of Pinot Noir, bottled early, may represent the sole production in 2020 from the fifth-generation winemaking sisters, Meike and Dorte Nakel. Rather than vintage problems, incredible flooding July 14, 2021 in the Ahr valley resulted in destruction of this winery and all their barrels. Moreover we were stunned by the harrowing tale of the sisters plunging into floodwaters to avoid potential explosion, swimming down through a cellar window to escape. They then found refuge in a downstream tree where they held on for seven hours before a rescue boat saved them. Wow. Complicated yet gluggable, that explains our perfect dream Rose – and thinking of the heroics from this producer only adds to our experience
